WBA Announcement (27/7)

27 Jul 2021 by Mario Costa

Latest update from the WBA below which includes the return of the domestic competition.

The club still needs to confirm the availability of the school gymnasiums. As well as put in place additional COVID Safe measures such as “COVID Check-In Marshals” (to be present at all training venues to assist with checking in all members). Further information regarding the return to training will be available tomorrow.

Hi WBA member,

It’s good news: we’re back on!

But there are still significant restrictions in place – some we are still working through – for competitions and programs, so apologies for this lengthy update, but we do ask you to read it carefully to ensure you’re across everything you need to know. These restrictions will be in place for at least the next two weeks.

After consultation with both Basketball Victoria and Eagle Stadium management on the current State Government settings, the WBA will be operating under the Orange-50 level.
This means for players 18 years of age and under, 1 spectator (parent or guardian) allowed per player. Government restrictions stipulate there are NO SPECTATORS allowed for any athletes over 18.

In the case where parents/guardians have other dependants (under 15 years old) we are asking that you try your best to have them not come along, but we absolutely understand there are circumstances where this is simply not possible and will allow it in these cases.
Masks are mandatory inside for all patrons over 12 years old unless medically exempt. Players, coaches and referees are exempt while on court participating in an exertive role, however, must be worn while not playing and on entry and exit of stadium.

We’re also asking that players and spectators vacate both the courts and the stadium in a timely manner as soon as their games/activities are completed. (If you are looking to catch up socially with friends, we ask that this takes place outside the stadium!) All patrons must enter and exit via the main entry of the stadium.

Junior domestic competitions
Junior domestic competitions will return this Friday night July 30 (U8s), Saturday July 31 (U10s-U16s) and Tuesday August 3 (U18 and Young Men/Women).

Senior domestic competitions
Senior domestic will return on Sunday August 1 for our Women’s comp, Monday August 2 for Monday Men’s and Premier Women’s and Wednesday August 4for Wednesday Men’s.
As above – there are NO SPECTATORS for any athletes 18 years or older.

Officials:
Our referees will be contacted about their games via the usual channels – please log in to Refbook and update your availability now.

VJBL:
VJBL training will be returning this week. Jackie Gibson will be contacting teams directly as we work through availability of schools during the week. Games will return this Friday night, July 30. Games that have been missed are cancelled.

Big V:
Big V training will return this week and games for Round 19 will take place this weekend. There are NO SPECTATORS allowed at any Big V games. Basketball Victoria will provide an updated fixture later this week.

PROGRAMS (Aussie Hoops, DDA, The Edge, The WEST):
Programs will return from next week, Monday August 2. Registrations for Term 3 remain open. Participants will be contacted directly about the weeks missed.

As had been the case before the lockdown, all patrons to Eagle Stadium will need to check in via the QR code at the entrance.

We know the number caps aren’t ideal, but we much prefer these restrictions than not being on court at all!

Thank you to our entire community for your patience and support through the last couple of weeks – we look forward to getting back to the sport we all love!

Kind regards,
Wyndham Basketball Association
